Now I know what our parents felt like when John Lennon died. Michael was one of the most innovative, daring, influential, charismatic and loved performers in modern history.
I can remember so many moments in my life that are tied to the music and dancing of the King. And seriously, who doesn’t like Thriller?
As a tribute to Michael Joseph Jackson, here is a look at Thriller and its colossal influence.
Watch the 14 minute version of the video here.
And here MJ kills it live.
Now for the influence…

Comment by MATT JANZ June 25, 2009 @ 10:05 pmThis post isn’t celebrating Michael Jackson’s personal life or gross indiscretions, whatever they may be. The things he’s been accused of are inexcusable and unforgivable, and unfortunately tarnish his musical legacy, whether or not they’re true. I have no idea if they’re true and whatever my opinions are of him as a person, it’s the people directly involved who have to deal with the consequences. If it’s all true, then yeah, it’s terrible.
The point of this post though, is that MJ was an incredible musician and his music and its legacy deserves to be remembered with the respect, adulation and awe that it deserves. Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad are three of the greatest albums ever recorded. In any genre. Ever. And that’s not even mentioning hit after awesome hit with the Jackson 5.
Yeah, the irony is that MJ probably would have been a much more normal, well-adjusted, happy person if he hadn’t been pushed by strict and overzealous parents into a musical career. We would all have been deprived of some of the greatest music ever and one of history’s most innovative, ground-and-barrier breaking musicians. But maybe Mike would have lived a long and happy, scandal-free existence.
Say what you want about Michael Jackson the person, today the music world lost a total legend. It’s a sad day for music and music fans everywhere.
Comment by Lauren G June 25, 2009 @ 10:42 pmLauren G is a very smart girl. She also has a level of reading comprehension that MATT JANZ’s parents could only dream of for their special son.
Not once in my post did I celebrate MJ as a man without flaws, nor did I comment on his behavior and moral barometer. The post was purely about the man’s great musical legacy. He is the most influential dancer, singer and song writer to generations of people worldwide. It’s not debatable.
So keep your profanity-laced, grammatically retarded CAPS LOCK ramblings to yourself.
Shamone.

celebrate the music, not the man.
Comment by nate June 26, 2009 @ 8:54 amThe music was legendary, the man was a pedophile. Karma, my friends, karma.
